Many parents of children swimming with us who achieve Beginner 3 level feel that their child should no longer continue swimming lessons because they can swim. We’ve put this blog together to explain why this shouldn’t be the case…
Once your child has achieved Beginner 3 level, they will be able to swim lengths with lateral and bilateral breathing and be bringing together the co-ordination of breaststroke along with breathing. One of the main reasons to continue to Improver 1-3 is that they will learn to improve their stamina while swimming all three major strokes and accomplish butterfly. Learning to improve stamina and rhythmical breaths will help your child to continue working on technique over distance.
Continuing to the Improver and Squad level in swimming is often ignored because swimming is often introduced at school during this age (7-8 years old). However, we feel strongly that school swimming isn’t enough and this was proven by a recent report which stated swimming was not taken seriously enough by primary schools.
Taking swimming lessons to Improver and Squad level also comes with the added benefits of the introduction of competitiveness between the children as well as the bonus of the social aspects of swimming with a group of children (maximum of 6 to a class).
Swimming into teenage years will also ensure that your child stays fit and healthy as swimming is a fantastic cardio workout.
