COACH JOE
I started swimming when I was 2 years old and joined a local swimming club at the age of 6, gradually through the years getting into long distance swimming where I became the first in the club to achieve a distance of swimming 4 miles. After leaving long distance swimming at the age of 19, I went travelling all round Asia and continued my passion for swimming, seeing amazing coral reefs, diving down to shipwrecks and even swimming with sea turtles!
I knew shortly after leaving the swimming club that I wanted to continue supporting the club in any way I could. I took on a volunteering position at the club and from then on, went onto completing my Level 1 and Level 2 Swim England swimming teaching qualifications, teaching from age 4 all the way up to adults.
Learning to swim is such an important life skill and acquiring the skill from a young age is beneficial. This means that a child will have the skill for the rest of their lives. As well as the safety benefits of learning to swim at a young age, it’s also an amazing way for a child to have fun and just enjoy themselves.
Being a swimming coach is truly rewarding; I get a chance to support swimmers achieve great things, see them enjoy themselves in the water whilst learning crucial life skills.
I’ve taught swimmers of all ages and ability levels and from my swimming club background, I look into very small details of swimmers’ technique. My aim is to make every lesson joyful and memorable for all the swimmers.
