We are justifiably proud of our coaches and their ongoing dedication and commitment to our prime aim – to deliver unrivalled swimming lessons through the SG Swim Programme.
Sports Generation’s experience in running, managing and recruiting for Swim Schools is unrivalled; prior to Sports Generation, Christian Kenny ran the largest private swim school in the country at The Riverside Health Club in Chiswick, now Virgin Active’s flagship club, where he accumulated over 20 years’ experience of teaching, recruiting and developing swimming staff.
We pride ourselves on both our recruitment and training standards. Instructors are hand-picked by the directors and every coach is ASA and/or STA qualified. Each has a minimum of 2 years’ experience, having worked at prestigious private establishments such as Reeds School, The Riverside Club and The Lensbury Club, bringing a wealth of collective experience to the SG team. One member of our coaching team is an STA tutor, training teachers who teach for us – it doesn’t get more experienced than that! All of our staff are also fully DBS checked.
We also spend a lot of time ‘road testing’ our instructors with meticulous attention to detail, asking them to commit to a minimum of four week’s shadowing before their recruitment. This ensures that our exacting coaching standards are observed first hand in the water and are continuously maintained. To reflect these standards, Sports Generation pay premium rates for committed and experienced coaches. This is reflected in our particularly low coach turnover which ultimately benefits your child as teaching continuity is optimised.
Not only are SG coaches of the highest calibre (several of our coaches are sports science graduates with swimming as their main focus), they genuinely relish teaching swimming and, equally importantly, teaching children. All instructors follow the Sports Generation Swim Programme, enabling children to progress as strong, happy swimmers, whilst simultaneously ensuring that lessons are both safe and productive by running them in line with the National Teaching Plan.
We constantly strive to uphold and improve our standards; all coaches attend bi-annual CPD (Continual Progressive Development) sessions in addition to quarterly Health & Safety training. At these sessions we actively encourage coach feedback to share best practice, ensuring teaching is consistent and of the high standard required by Sports Generation, across the range of classes we offer.
Many of our coaches work in the office daily alongside the directors and are closely involved with running the company. This affords them detailed logistical knowledge of the entire SG Swim Programme, therefore enabling quick and efficient management of the programme, plus management of each child’s progress and class transition.
